Microsoft patches big Windows flaw discovered by NSA

Windows 10 is the most widely-used operating system in the world.

It is possible to install Windows 10 on old PCs but Microsoft warns that it may not run smoothly. "Although there is no evidence that it has been exploited by hackers, it is a major threat as it lays users open to a range of attacks, so this is a case of don't panic but apply the patch straightaway".

Microsoft said the flaw could allow a hacker to forge digital certificates used by some versions of Windows to authenticate and secure data.

Microsoft has denied this report in a later statement. If you need to be online then doing so without up-to-date security patches is asking for trouble. Nearly half of all computer users have it as their operating system, with half of all computers using it. Nonetheless, this is a pretty serious test for users - and hours after the deadline for the operating system.

Download an evaluation version of Windows 10, activate it, and keep reactivating every 90 days or so until Microsoft gets bored of the scheme.

If you stay put and continue to utilise Windows 7 for your everyday online activities there are obvious dangers.

That's a problem that users who stay on Windows 7 face; this may not be risky of the PC is not connected to the Internet and used only locally.

Its officials. Microsoft ended support for its Windows 7 operating system, which it released in October of 2009.

If you have an older computer you may want to buy a new computer that comes with Windows 10 already installed. Following that, Microsoft switched to its extended support phase which meant only necessary patches were released. Neuberger said the agency took an unprecented step by reporting the bug, instead of hoarding the vulnerability and using it for its offensive tools and operations. "With a shift to Surface and Microsoft 365, your company devices will have security built in and your business will be ready for the future", Microsoft says. Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and a few others can be found on the Security Updates list. And that's the cheapest available option.

Technically, there is nothing to stop you using your Windows 7 PC the way you always have. That means system updates will no longer be released unless massive security flaws are discovered, and bugs will no longer be fixed so they'll just continue to bother you until you finally relent and upgrade to Windows 10.

Starting from January 14, Microsoft is discontinuing the operating system's technical assistance and software updates that play an important role in keeping your computers from harm.
