The Raiders haven't made a coaching move this offseason; until now.

But according to multiple reports, Rod Marinelli is not only leaving the staff, but is headed to Oakland to become the Raiders' defensive line coach.

Gruden reportedly told Buckner that his performance wasn't the reason for the firing. The 70-year-old Marinelli is a respected coach who has a history with Gruden, but many feel Gruden would have been better off hiring him to replace Raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther while keeping Buckner.

As Trotter points out, the Raiders saw tangible progress on the defensive line in Buckner's year on the job. Marinelli previous worked with Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay as he was the team's defensive line coach from 1996-2005.

The Raiders improved from last in the league with 13 sacks in 2018 to 24th with 32 in 2019.

Marinelli has been with the Cowboys since 2013 as both defensive line coach and defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys allowed 103.5 rushing yards per game this season under Marinelli, which was 11th in the NFL.

Oakland finished 7-9 under Gruden this fall after going 4-12 in 2018.
