Heavy wind and rain are set to arrive in northern parts of the United Kingdom, bringing potential travel chaos and a risk of floods, according to the Met Office.

According to the latest forecast winds could reach speeds of 50mph in the city.

The weather authority are anticipating "some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport", even saying that bus journeys could be extended.

Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are active for Friday and Saturday in parts of Wales, northern England and parts of Scotland.

Short term loss of power and other services is also possible, while some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities may be affected by spray and large waves.

The winds will ease from the west during Tuesday night. Inland gusts of 45-55 miles per hour are more likely.

The Met Office says high winds are expected both days.

Rain, heavy at times, may bring some disruption on Tuesday and Wednesday.
