Apple's next MacBook upgrades could be coming soon

Apple's filing, which was made a few days before Christmas, is for a yet-to-be-released Mac, described as a portable Mac that runs macOS Catalina.

Given the very positive reception for the new keyboard in the MacBook Pro 16-inch, it's also likely the case that Apple will see the need to fairly quickly transfer this component to other models, because it seems an obvious move to make - and therefore folks might wait until it happens before they pull the trigger on their next Apple laptop purchase.

The theory is, then, that this could be a new MacBook Pro 13-inch for 2020 which might carry the revamped keyboard that Apple introduced with the MacBook Pro 16-inch. That said, there's no guarantee as to which updates the new notebooks will actually receive.

This would fit with a prediction from top Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo that the company would bring its new keyboard design with scissor switches to the 16-inch MacBook Pro which Apple unveiled late previous year.

A new Apple product has surfaced through the Eurasian Economic Commission, as noted by 9to5Mac, which spotted what could be a new MacBook Pro with a redesigned Magic Keyboard in the EEC's database. And while it looked to be an nearly identical copy of the 15-inch model, updates included a brand new Magic Keyboard meant to offer a permanent fix to the sticky keys problem that affected various MacBook, Air, and Pro models released in recent years.

However, the butterfly keyboards are considered one of "the company's worst design decisions due to their penchant for failure due to small particulates like crumbs or heat issues".

According to Macrumors, butterfly keys use a butterfly mechanism that's different from the scissor mechanism used for traditional keyboards.
