Dana White Explains Why Conor McGregor Could Get Next Lightweight Title Shot

Ever since it was announced that McGregor is going to fight Cerrone on January 18th, many observers have predicted the UFC will look at giving McGregor another title shot, if he's victorious at UFC 246.

Khabib Nurmagomedov will have his next fight on April 18, 2020 with American Tony Ferguson.

"I'm surprised that Dana White is saying that if Conor beats Cerrone and I beat Tony Ferguson, there will be a rematch", Khabib said.

McGregor memorably knocked Aldo out inside 13 seconds four years ago to inflict his first defeat in 10 years at UFC 194 but it's great to see a respect between the pair of fighters nowadays. "Then he loses to Khabib (Nurmagomedov) in a fight that was - when you talk about bad blood - it's like the next level of bad blood". Gaethje was on his way up, too.

Regardless, a lot of people are backing up Khabib and feels that McGregor is not deserving of the special treatment, especially since he has not fought in over a year and has not won an MMA bout since November 2016. "But that timing and math isn't going to work out".

"Well, who is going to fight - it's me who is now making the decision".

Will White's explanation silence Gaethje boosters and critics?

"It's the minor leagues, it doesn't matter who wins", Khabib said in Russian at a press conference in the city of Krasnodar in his homeland.

But, if by "done", we're looking at McGregor's record, that doesn't hold up as much.

In his first fight with Conor McGregor in October 2018, Khabib Nurmagomedov retained his lightweight title via submission in Round 4. White also argued in the interview that people are disrespecting Cerrone because of his recent losses.

"One of my first fights was at Pancrase and I even dreamed of being a champion one day, but fate brought me to America".

Cerrone is on a two-bout losing skid and has lost six out of his last ten bouts, and not seven (or eight) like Khabib says.
