The older brother of Facts of Life star Nancy McKeon went on to work as an actor onstage and onscreen, and scored his big break in 1976, when he was tapped to play Tommy Hyatt on USA sitcom Alice, based on Martin Scorsese's 1974 romantic comedy, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Alice aired on CBS from 1976 to 1985, beginning when McKeon was just 12.

The actor died Tuesday morning in Texas following a longtime illness, family spokesman Jeff Ballard confirmed to Variety.

Philip would also secure roles and appearances in CHiPs, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat and other projects. He is survived by his sister Nancy and his mother, Barbara.

McKeon was survived by their mother Barbara and Nancy, whom he cheered on via Facebook previous year as she competed on ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

LOS ANGELES - JANUARY 1: ALICE cast from left to right: Polly Holliday as "Flo" Florence Jean Castleberry; Vic Tayback as diner owner Mel Sharples; Philip McKeon as Alice's son Tommy; Linda Lavin as Alice Hyatt; and Beth Howland as Vera Louise Gorman.

"A huge happy birthday to my big brother!" she wrote on November 11.

Nancy had posted a happy birthday message to her brother last month, remarking on how they always get through tough times together.

Her Facts of Life co-stars Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn and Lisa Whelchel chimed in with their own birthday wishes for him.

McKeon also worked at the Los Angeles radio station KFWB News 98 for 10 years, Ballard said.
