The show also fell on the final day of the famous Art Basel art fair, and truly seemed like some next-level performance art.

The opera is the latest project in which West has embraced his Christianity, as he has staged his Sunday Service gospel performances across the US, and is reportedly planning to team up with preacher Joel Osteen to stage a huge sermon at New York's Yankee Stadium in the coming months. "West's Mary brings together elements from different worlds - including opera, fine arts, modern dance and gospel music - to create a new visual interpretation and innovative performance structure". However, instead of being delayed by more than two hours, Ye's Sunday (December 8) show got started just one hour after its original 3 p.m. start time.

The Marine Stadium, which is used as a boat-racing arena, features area seating looking out over an expanse of water, meaning all of Mary was staged on floating barges which the actors accessed via speed boats and water craft.

By the end of 2019, Kanye West has performed more operas than anyone expected at the beginning of 2019.

The rapper alongside other performers, clad themselves in chrome-like garments and were seen reading gospel passages, akin to the scene from "Nebuchadnezzar". And, the opera was all about Christmas history and included traditional songs like Oh holy night, Glory in Excelsis Deo, and Little Drummer.

The woman who played the Virgin Mary stood out from the rest of the choir because she wore a glittering sea foam green robe.
