After battling for her life for nearly 40 hours, the 23-year-old woman died following a cardiac arrest on Friday night at the Safdarjung Hospital here.

A hospital vehicle carries the body of a rape victim to her residence in New Delhi.

She said the UP government did not provide security to the Unnao gang rape victim even though a similar incident had earlier taken place in the same district.

Five accused persons, including two who had allegedly raped her, were arrested soon after. The victim was burned alive by a group of five men, including the accused who had gotten out of jail after getting bail. The family said they will cremate her body only after the Chief Minister promises strict action against the perpetrators. "She suffered while the doctor tried to resuscitate from cardiac arrest, but she could not survive", Dr. Shalab Kumar, Head of Burns and Plastic Department, told ANI.

The sister demanded a government job for one of the family members and immediate capital punishment to the accused.

She alleged that the three accused were threatening to abolish her as effectively. The victim, who had sustained over 90 percent burns, was airlifted from Lucknow to Delhi late on Thursday evening and remained conscious till nine o'clock in the night. "Tomorrow we will conduct a shokh sabha in all districts of the state over Unnao rape case".

The Yogi Adityanath government has been slammed by opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Bahujan Samaj Party's Mayawati.

BSP chief Mayawati, also slammed the UP government saying, "Not a single day goes by without a case of crime against women in Uttar Pradesh".

The brother of the Unnao rape victim said that the family would bury the remains as there is nothing left to burn.

After her death, a post-mortem examination of the body was conducted, hospital sources said, adding that its report would be handed over to the police.

"They come to my house everyday and threaten me with dire consequences if I file a complaint", the woman said.
