Trump impeachment hearing interrupted by protester

Mr Nadler said the case against Mr Trump is clear after "multiple officials testified that the president's demand for an investigation into his rivals was a part of his personal, political agenda, and not related to the foreign policy objectives of the United States".

The House Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on Monday morning at which lawyers for Democrats and Republicans plan to make cases for and against the impeachment of President Donald Trump. "He has violated his most basic responsibilities to the people".

Watch the hearing live here. "It's all a show". In drafting the articles of impeachment, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is facing a legal and political challenge of balancing the views of her majority while hitting the constitution's bar of "treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors".

The proceedings will showcase a 300-page report by Intelligence Committee Democrats that levels allegations of sweeping abuse of power against Trump. Berke recapped the evidence that has been presented over the last few weeks. "James Madison noted that Congress must be able to remove the president between elections lest there be no remedy if a president betrayed the public trust in dealings with foreign powers", the professors explain. "The president's going to be acquitted", he told Fox News.

"The question is not whether the president's conduct could have resulted from permissible motives.

These facts are not in dispute", Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said.

A protester has disrupted the opening of impeachment hearings into US President Donald Trump.

Though Nadler has set the bar for impeachment low, a committee vote is just another step in a drawn-out process. Democratic leaders will meet later Monday evening. This autumn the House has served in the roles of investigator, grand jury and prosecutor.

But they appeared to back away from basing one of the articles of impeachment on former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian election interference in 2016. If the study documents wrongdoing that tarnishes Mueller's findings, it could affect Democrats' calculations. Republicans on the committee claim that Nadler is rushing the process. So the panel may convene another hearing this week after Monday's session.

Trump also continued to push his charge that Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden and 2020 hopeful, had participated in corruption in Ukraine.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EST. "The requested minority hearing day must take place before articles of impeachment are considered by the committee".

The protester's shouts to Nadler about how "Americans are sick of your impeachment scam!" was especially ironic given that he turned out to be Owen Shroyer, a known conspiracy theorist.

The panel could introduce, then amend or "mark up" articles of impeachment, then send them for a vote in the full House. But a House GOP ally called Giuliani's trip "weird", coming as House investigators review allegations that Giuliani improperly worked on behalf of Trump to pressure Ukraine to pursue investigations into Biden and Biden's son, as well as a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russian Federation, interfered in the 2016 US election. A vote to convict requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate, where Republicans hold 53 of 100 seats.

Tempers flared as Republicans tried to derail the hearing at its opening with procedural moves, and a lone protestor was ejected after shouting in the president's defense.
