Minecraft cross-play finally lands on PS4 tomorrow

Bedrock is coming to PlayStation 4 tomorrow!

The game's Bedrock build is now available and offers cross-play between (deep breath) Xbox One, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, iPhone, Android and Gear VR. Alternatively, a new physical edition of the game including the Bedrock content will also be available at retailers.

The list of platforms that support cross-play has grown to a fairly large one in recent years. Of course, Minecraft is already on PS4 and millions of people will own it already. The Switch trailer came out right as Nintendo and Microsoft were really beginning to buddy up, which is also around the time Sony's stick-in-the-mud attitude began to stand out in a bad way. As a Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer, "A free Microsoft or Xbox Live account allows all Minecraft players to track progress and purchases across platforms, now including PS4".

The content, aside from cross-play, will include the Minecraft Marketplace where PS4 players will be able to get skins, mini-games, and packs.

Existing owners of Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition will "begin updating" to the Bedrock version then, Microsoft said today in a press release. PS4 players are now getting the experience everyone else had access to. Don't worry, beloved reader of PlayStation Blog, there is always more!
