Picking up the story 30 years on from the events of Ghostbusters 2, which saw NY under attack from supernatural forces, Afterlife sees the descendants of Harold Ramis' Egon Spengler moving into the former paranormal investigator's remote farm house.

The plot of the movie will involve a mother (Carrie Coon) and her two kids (Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) moving to a small town in Oklahoma after the mom inherits a farm from her father, Vanity Fair reported Friday. Sony Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the next continuation of the original Ghostbusters series. Original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts are all expected to return for the sequel. This plays like more of an introductory teaser, without showing any of the old cast, while reintroducing the Ecto-1 and all the new people. "As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters". Reitman, who had a cameo in 1989's Ghostbusters 2, co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan (Monster House, Poltergeist), who is no stranger to ghost stories.

The film is not connected to Paul Feig's 2016 Ghostbusters reboot which starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. It's what you might expect from the director of Up in the Air and Juno (Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters' original director) - but still, it's a nice surprise to get a feel for that tone in this trailer.
