They observed a moment of silence at 07:55 a.m., the same time when the attack began on December 7,1941.

Saturday marks the 78th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, and one of the three remaining survivors of the USS Arizona will attend the annual ceremony in Hawaii.

The ceremony included Adm. Harry Harris, Jr., ambassador to South Korea and former commander of the U.S. Pacific Command along with U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt.

Frank Wasniewski, 100, the last living Hudson County Pearl Harbor survivor, was represented at the event by his niece, Geralyn Crawford of Bayonne.

Hudson County honored the 2,403 Americans who lost their lives 78 years ago Saturday with a somber ceremony on the Jersey City waterfront.

A total of 1,177 sailors and Marines on board the USS Arizona were killed and more than 900 could not be recovered from the ship, according to the National Park Service.

Officials said security was beefed up during the ceremony marking the Pearl Harbor attack anniversary. Each year, almost 2 million people visit the white memorial structure built above the ship.

Saturday morning a ceremony was held at the Doris Miller memorial statue in Waco.

Following the late-afternoon ceremony, National Park Service and military divers will take the urn containing Bruner's ashes and lower it to his final resting place in the hull of the ship's wreckage, Blount said. Bruner explained before he died that he preferred being interred in the Arizona so he could join his buddies and because of the memorial's high number of visitors.

Bruner will be the 44th USS Arizona survivor interred on the ship.

"Lauren was a good sailor, a good man".

"My family and I would like to express our gratitude to the first responders and the expert medical staff at Queen's, as well as to all the friends and extended ohana who have been reaching out to offer their support physically, emotionally and spiritually", Nakamine said in the statement.
