GWENT: The Witcher Card Game console support to end December 9

It's no surprise that Gwent, The Witcher card game, is most popular on PC and iOS: the game's hardcore competitive scene is on PC, while mobile is a lot more convenient for everyone else. The reason, according to CD Projekt Red, is that the game is available on too many platforms.

On the official GWENT website, CDPR announced that they were canceling console support.

CD Projekt explained the discontinuation, saying it can't "support a growing number of different versions of Gwent while improving feature parity between them".

Starting December 9, the console versions of Gwent will no longer receive regular updates, any future expansions or downloadable content, and matchmaking on consoles with other platforms will no longer work. Many players loved Geralt's obsession with the game and played GWENT more than the main storyline.

Transferring Meteorite Powder from PlayStation 4 to GOG is not possible.

"However, having just launched GWENT on iOS, and with the Android version coming, the number of supported platforms would significantly increase". In other words, it sounds like Gwent just isn't very popular on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and CD Projekt Red's made a decision to cut the console versions loose so that it can focus on its strongest player counts.

This doesn't mean console players are entirely out of luck.

Starting December 9th, players will be able to copy their ornaments, cards, deck lists, account level, rank, contracts, and Thronebreaker rewards to new or existing GOG accounts. Xbox One players can also transfer their Meteorite Powder, but PlayStation 4 owners cannot. PS4 players will have to spend their powder before copying progress to GoG or risk losing it all.

The transfer includes one more caveat: you can only shift your progress to a GOG account that isn't connected to Gwent.

On the 12th of December, an update will be released for Gwent on consoles that will effectively "freeze" Gwent in its current state.

The option to copy progress over will go live on December 9th.

GWENT console players can move over their accounts within the next six months until June 6, 2020.
