An average of 2.6 million viewers tuned in to ITV to watch former The Only Way Is Essex star Megan McKenna crowned the first victor of Simon Cowell's spin-off show.

Saturday night's show saw Jenny Ryan, Megan McKenna, V5 and Max and Harvey compete for the series crown - and that coveted Syco record contract.

A thrilled Megan said of her win: 'Thank you so much for everybody that's voted for me.

Megan was mentored by Louis Walsh - it's the judge's second X Factor win after coaching Shayne Ward to victory in 2015.

Her winning song was a cover version of It Must Have Been Love by the Swedish pop group Roxette.

During her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house, she received a formal warning for using aggressive and threatening behaviour towards her housemates.

Smoke guns fired and lasers lit up the stage as they danced to Buttons, When I Grow Up and Don't Cha, before being joined by a troupe of male back-up dancers. It was all on camera.

She performed one of her biggest gigs to date at the British Summer Time festival in London's Hyde Park in 2018, supporting Michael Buble.

Rebecca - who is set to kick off "The X Factor: Celebrity" final with a live performance at JustEat's BOXPARK Wembley screening party - said: "Simon's always been that way".

In 2017, she starred in her own reality series, There's Something About Megan - which focused on her travelling to Nashville to launch a career in country music.

After taking time off from filming Towie, she began to refocus her energy on music, reaching number 43 in the United Kingdom singles chart with her debut single High Heeled Shoes.
