Wolfgang Van Halen Ends Billie Eilish Twitter Debate

Now, a hilarious inter-generational battle has kicked off on Twitter, with hair metal fans lamenting the taste of youth these days and anyone under the age of 50 not caring that she doesn't know who Van Halen is. While she appeared to know who Madonna was, she was completely lost when Jimmy Kimmel brought up the Panama band, who have been in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame since 2007. While her age is often results in praise, Jimmy Kimmel spun it into a reason for mockery. She stared back in confusion and asked, "Who?"

When asked if she could name a Van Halen, she looked puzzled and responded, "Who?"

Wolfgang Van Halen - son of guitar titan Eddie Van Halen, who replaced founding bassist Michael Anthony in 2006 when he was just 15 - told his followers to give Billie a break.

Kimmel reacted similarly to so many others online by saying "I'm gonna start crying".

"Who?" was Eilish's response, to laughter from the audience. Mind you, the band formed in 1972 and Eilish wasn't born until 2001. Van Halen are not on her radar.

During the playful interview, Eilish also didn't recognize the names Huey Lewis or Run-DMC, though she answered affirmatively to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. Van Halen were a band who were on top of the world when they first emerged, but who made crotch-thrusting party rock more than anything else. Van Halen released a "best of" with two new songs in the time she's been alive and had one reunion tour. To put it another way, are most Van Halen superfans deeply knowledgeable about Tommy Dorsey's work with Frank Sinatra? "Listen to what you want and don't shame others for not knowing what you like".
