The Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon, but will now have to wait to see if they'll have to spend time without Marcus Smart.

Julius Randle led the Knicks with 26 parts. At 4-16, the Knicks have played 20 games this season after team president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry announced they would watch the year at 10-game intervals.

Smart attempted to jump in front of Knicks forward Kevin Knox and take a charge midway through the third quarter, but was called for a blocking foul instead.

Whether you believe in "load management" or not, sometimes you just need some time to heal, and Boston Celtics shooting guard Marcus Smart has probably reached that point.

Jayson Tatum scored a game-high 30 points for the Celtics, including the run-capping 3-pointer that gave them a 104-95 lead. "Our turnovers sparked them", Knicks coach David Fizdale said.

"At the start of the game we didn't come out with the stuff", Celtics coach Brad Stevens said.

"There's two halves to a game", Brown said.

"It hurts when we cannot play significant minutes", said Fizdale of Robinson, who had six points, five rebounds and no shots blocked in 19 minutes. Knox had a decent game with 11 points on 4 of 9 shots, but he still has a long way to go before he becomes an impact player.

Celtics: Various than a 14-level loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the season opener, one one more Boston defeat this season has been by 5 parts or much less. The Celtics lead the all-time series against the Knicks 296-182, including a 160-64 advantage in NY. NY has lost five straight games against Boston. The Celtics defeated the Knicks 104-102 in their last matchup on November 1. The Knicks are 0-8 in opposition to Atlantic Division opponents this season. Smart suffered a torn oblique at the end of last season that kept him out through the first round of the playoffs, as well as the first three games of Boston's Eastern Conference semifinal against the Milwaukee Bucks. Nine different Boston players have gotten at least one start. No one has recorded 10 dimes for the Knicks, with Barrett and Frank Ntilikina topping out at nine.
