Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa was airlifted to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Birmingham after suffering a hip injury during the second quarter of this week's game against Mississippi State.

Tua Tagovailoa #13 of the Alabama Crimson Tide reacts after throwing an interception in the first half against the Tennessee Volunteers at Bryant-Denny Stadium on October 19, 2019 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Scrambling out of the pocket, the 21-year-old National Football League draft prospect was rocked just after he was able to get rid of the ball.

"For the past 24 hours our medical team has consulted with multiple orthopedic experts across the country, who specialize in hip injuries and surgeries", Alabama team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lyle Cain said in a statement.

"He is undergoing further testing to determine the best course of treatment".

Tagovailoa finished the game 14 of 18 passing for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

According to the ESPN telecast, Tagovailoa suffered an injury to his right hip - not his knee or ankle. Alabama has said it anticipates a full recovery for Tagovailoa, who had been forecasted as a potential high first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft before the injury.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban added: "Godspeed to him and his entire family. And our thoughts and prayers are with him and hope this is not so serious that it has any long-term effects on his future".
