According to Game Data Library, which compiles video games sales information out of Japan, Death Stranding had the best opening of any new IP in Japan this entire generation. The Death Stranding 1.05 update patch notes don't go into any real detail, sadly. It is a brand new IP developed by Kojima Productions that is out now for PS4 and it is expected to arrive in Summer 2020 for PC. It'll be interesting to see how it sells in other territories, as well as how it ranks in the November 2019 NPD charts. The game uses the Decima engine that was developed by Guerrilla Games. It implements the following fix.

The patch follows the day-one update which fixed "multiple problems" and also contained "various performance improvements". It doesn't seem to offer an increase in its download size with the new patch.

Death Stranding is off to a strong start in Japan, with first week sales in excess of 185,000 copies.

Available through the "Update history" menu, the latest patch notes reveal that "various performance improvements" have been made to the game.

Sony has confirmed to that outlet that the last line of Kojima's quote is: "In America, there are a lot of FPS fans, maybe those fans are saying this is like a different game and are not rating it very high".
