Washington Will Withhold Trent Willams' $5.1M Salary

Because Williams was placed on the non-football injury list, the team had it within its right to pay Williams any portion of his salary, electing to bypass it entirely.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Washington made a decision to withhold the money owed to Williams. Williams said he was told the cancer cells were close to penetrating his skull. 'But the bridge has definitely been burned [with the Redskins]'.

Placing Williams on the list ensured he won't play at all during the 2019 campaign.

The Redskins apparently inquired about a third-party investigation into the medical care of Williams, who has just one year remaining on his contract after this season. Every time, the doctors refused, claiming that it was not a serious matter.

The Redskins, however, opted for a different tact, choosing not to pay Williams for the remainder of this season after paying him last week when he returned to the team.

That procedure is at the center of Williams' problems with the team.

He told reporters earlier this week that the Redskins described a growth in his head as "minor" six years ago but the growth turned out to be a rare tissue cancer known as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DSFP). He added he has since had multiple surgeries to remove the tumor. 'Football was more important, and to me, it was more important, too.

'No, there's no trust there, ' Williams said.

The Redskins have been accused of smearing Williams name and credibility which lead to this statement from the NFLPA. The CBS Sports reporter also said many National Football League teams were becoming frustrated with the Bengals for "their unwillingness to trade players like A.J. Green, Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, Tyler Eifert and Dre Kirkpatrick".

"I don't know what options I have, I will probably lean on the [players association] for that", Williams said.

Williams has appeared in 120 games with Washington since being drafted out of Oklahoma in 2010. He had reached seven consecutive Pro Bowls before sitting out this season.
