Rep. Jim Jordan Moved To House Intelligence Committee AKA ‘Impeachment Committee’

Rep. Jordan is an outspoken defender of President Trump and has been critical of Chairman Schiff's closed-door impeachment probe. So Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) is temporarily resigning from the committee and McCarthy is giving his spot to Jordan.

But Mr. Trump quickly rejected that idea, and House Republicans have hardly commented on it.

"In Speaker Pelosi's House, those responsibilities have fallen victim to partisan witch hunts", McCarthy added. After impeachment wraps up, Crawford says he'll be back on the committee.

Amid criticism of the way they handled the impeachment inquiry, Trump and his top aides increased their assistance to some of the GOP senators who will play key roles in determining the President's fate.

Jordan, a ranking member on the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said Republicans have been asked to submit a list of their witnesses. The person offered to answer written questions directly from Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee - on the condition that his or her identity would still be hidden but verified by the inspector general of the intelligence community.

"You can understand why the president is frustrated", Jordan said last month.

President Trump and the Republicans have repeatedly stated that the identity of the whistleblower should be revealed and have pressured the media to identify him. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

"Prior to the start of your public show trial next week, at least one additional closed-door deposition must take place", he continued.

Trump's allies want to try to counter potentially damaging testimony by USA diplomats during next week's public hearings by presenting the whistleblower as a partisan figure who helped Democrats launch an impeachment inquiry that had always been considered, according to House of Representatives Republican aides and strategists. Lawmakers will hear testimony from acting US ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor and deputy assistant Secretary of State George Kent on Wednesday and will hear from former USA ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch on Friday. Transcripts of his deposition were released by Democrats earlier this week.
