Deana Martin is not a fan of the updated version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" by John Legend and Kelly Clarkson.

The daughter of Dean Martin, whose 1959 rendition of the Frank Loesser composition popularized the tune for the holidays, took to Good Morning Britain to voice her displeasure.

When a Christmas song has been done to death, what can you possibly do to shake it up?

"I was absolutely flabbergasted; it's just insane", she said of learning about the uproar caused by the song that has been around for 70-plus years.

"The character in the song is saying "no, ' and they're saying well, "Does no really mean yes?' And I think in 2018 what we know is consent is "yes" and if you get a 'no", it means 'no" and you should stop right there". He should write his own song if he doesn't like this one, but don't change the lyrics.

"[Dean] would say it's absurd".

"I really can't stay (Baby it's cold outside)/ I gotta go away (I can call you a ride)" are the first two lines in the heavily retooled track, setting the tone for the rest of their exchange. "I think John should've just left it alone", Martin added.

The single, with new lyrics written by Legend and comedian Natasha Rothwell, went live at the stroke of midnight on Friday. "The part where he was like why are you still living with parents killed me". It's been a flashpoint of the #MeToo era, with foes calling it everything from sexist to an ode to date rape.

This would all seem reasonably non-controversial; there are, after all, countless versions of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" to choose from, and singers update, parody and otherwise futz with standards all the time.

Similarly, the original tune goes, "The neighbors might think (Baby it's bad out there)/Say, what's in this drink?"

In contrast, Legend and Clarkson's version swaps out those lyrics in favor of: "What will my friends think? If I have one more drink?" to which the Legend 's suitor replies: "It's your body and your choice".

New lines include "It's your body and your choice" and "I want you to stay, it's not up to me".
