Public health officials also look to last year's season to develop each the influenza vaccine.

Each year, flu causes millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and, sometimes, tens of thousands of deaths in the United States.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Oakland county's heath division announced a 69-year-old man is dead due to the flu.

Dr Gerry Waldron, Assistant Director of Public Health (Health Protection) at the PHA, said: "We have been exploring how to best use the available stock based on evidence and clinical advice, and taking into account projections on the revised delivery schedule to maximise protection in the community".

The activity levels throughout Iowa are still sporadic.

Seasonal influenza activity is spreading in Rhea County and across Tennessee and is expected to continue for months, so it's important for anyone over six months of age who hasn't had a flu shot this flu season to get one now.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said on October 30 that 5,000 people were hospitalized due to the flu in Ontario in 2018.

Deliveries to some schools in Northern Ireland are also delayed, and likely to be around the United Kingdom, because PHE buys and orders vaccine stock for all the devolved nations.

Manufacturers in the flu vaccine market are focusing on expanding their product offerings in various countries. Not as common, people can contract the flu by touching a surface that has the virus on it and then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

"Every Ontarian can join our efforts to put an end to hallway health care by getting their flu shot", said Elliott. In the CDC's report, 2.4% of tested specimens nationwide were positive for an influenza virus, a slight increase from the previous week.

Since the vaccine is meant to prevent serious illness, not everyone who receives a vaccine will avoid becoming infected.

Those with symptoms but who normally are healthy are encouraged to stay home until they feel better, to cover their coughs and to wash their hands frequently.
