British rocker Pete Doherty was arrested and taken into custody in Paris Friday after being caught buying cocaine, a French police source told AFP.

Pete Doherty of The Libertines performs on the Pyramid stage at Worthy Farm in Somerset during the Glastonbury Festival in Britain, June 26 2015.

The Libertines star is thought to have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of his arrest.

The office wouldn't confirm French media reports that Doherty was carrying 2 grams of cocaine and was arrested in Pigalle, an area known for its late-night bars.

A spokesman for Paris prosecutors confirmed he was "placed in detention" in the early hours of Friday morning, and faced drug related charges.

As a result of mounting to fame within the noughties, Doherty, the ex-boyfriend of mannequin Kate Moss, has been commonly arrested for drug offenses.

A rep for Doherty did not immediately return Fox News' request for comment.
