"I admit fully that there were some things that bothered me that I had to work on... through getting to know her through research", the 44-year-old Oscar victor revealed at a post-screening discussion in New York City on Sunday night. As for what had her anxious, Theron struggled with the idea of portraying a person who's "incredibly well known". "I've played real people that nobody knows about so there was less pressure when I did those".

The Jay Roach-directed Bombshell stars Theron as Kelly, along with Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson, Margot Robbie as a fictional Fox News producer, and John Lithgow as former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, who is the villain in the story.

Theron also confessed that she thought about if "there's somebody out there who can do this better than you can".

"I was s-t scared", Theron said during a Q&A over the weekend, via Variety. "I honestly knew her so superficially". Kelly and Carlson, both former employees of the network, claimed sexual harassment from Ailes during their careers.

The three actresses recently discussed the movie while appearing on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show".When asked if Kelly had reached out to her regarding the role, Theron said no, but clarified: "So we used a lot of source material in telling this story". She explained that a lot of people didn't understand why Kelly didn't speak up about Ailes, but Theron says that news anchor was in a complicated place. Did I mess something up in her trailer? He was accused of similar behavior by numerous women at Fox News, which he vehemently denied until his death in May 2017.

Bombshell opens in theaters nationwide on December 20th.
