Joel Matip: Liverpool defender signs new deal until summer 2024

Joël Matip has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool Football Club.

While there were reports that Van Dijk would sign a new deal with the club, he remains locked into Liverpool through the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 28-year-old Cameroon worldwide, joining Liverpool in the summer of 2016, has represented the Reds 107 times.

"It's a great feeling to be a longer part of the club".

The 28-year-old has established himself as Virgil van Dijk's partner at the heart of Liverpool's defence, holding off competition from Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren.

Since joining Liverpool, Matip has made 107 appearances and scored five times - most recently in August's 3-1 Premier League win at home to Arsenal. "It's really just a great feeling", he told Liverpoolfc.com.
