In 2016, Trudeau became the first Canadian Prime Minister to attend a dinner courtesy of the American President in almost two decades when he and wife Sophie were invited to a US state dinner.

Obama's endorsement came just hours after Trudeau, speaking to reporters in Montreal, accused the Conservatives of running "one of the dirtiest, nastiest campaigns based on disinformation that we've ever seen in this country".

Three days away from Monday's election and the Liberals and Conservatives are in a statistical tie in the newest polling numbers from Mainstreet Research, separated by only two-tenths of a percentage point. Canadians vote on Monday.

Trudeau's comments followed demands by Tory Leader Andrew Scheer that the Liberals "have the guts" to explain what taxes will be raised to secure NDP support in a coalition government.

In the only English-language debate, Scheer said Trudeau was "a phony and a fraud" who did not deserve to govern.

While the Conservatives lead over the Liberals remains virtually unchanged from the previous week, 33 per cent to 29 per cent, the DART & Maru/Blue Voice Canada Poll reveals a slight shift in the voting intentions among Ontarians could tip the scales in favour of the Conservatives on election night.

"Celina has been an excellent representative and an excellent MP for Whitby and I thank her deeply for her service", said Trudeau.

The Conservatives were the source of a video of Trudeau in blackface in the early 1990s.

The tweet comes with Trudeau and Conservative leader Andrew Scheer still very close in the polls, according to 338Canada.

Seven per cent of those asked said they are undecided while five per cent said they don't plan to cast a vote.

"Justin Trudeau has been dividing Canadians - pitting regions of our great country against each other", Simon Jefferies, a spokesman for Scheer's campaign, said in a statement, adding Trudeau "should take a look in the mirror".
