Paradox has announced Crusader Kings 3, the latest sequel in its popular simulation series.

And to celebrate the start of this weekend of all things Paradox, the publisher has made its medieval strategy title Crusader Kings II free on PC! Character models are 3D and the map is more detailed than before, with enhancements specifically created to appeal to longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Build a Mighty Kingdom: Use cold steel or warm words to expand your realm; war backed by cunning, and diplomacy that unites bloodlines.

Guide unique characters through history, choosing lifestyles best suited to their personalities and your ambitions.

"Crusader Kings III is a grand medieval simulator where you are free to live out any plausible ruler fantasy that we could think of-but not without challenge." said game director Henrik Fahraeus in a press release.

Experience High Drama: Stranger than fiction stories leap off the screen, as characters plot against you and events push you to extremes.

Most interesting, though, and I'm sure of most relief to curious onlookers previously put off by CKII's density, is the promise of a new intro framed as "Guided advice to help newcomers navigate a rich medieval world".

The Usual Crusader Kings Fun: Keep a stubborn council in line. You can pick it up on Steam by following the link here. Created to enhance the experience of Paradox veterans while being more welcoming to young squires, Crusader Kings III is a rich setting for an infinite number of new stories.

And if you want to go all in, then Crusader Kings II's mammoth catalogue of DLC is also rocking 50% off its asking price for the duration of the weekend. For more information, check out the official Crusader Kings website. It'll be available both through Steam and through Xbox Game Pass for PC.
