The 26-year-old has been stepping up his recovery in a warm-weather training camp in Dubai during the global break but he hasn't recovered sufficiently for Sunday's game. The Reds are nailed on for a victory as they head to Lancashire to face Manchester United.

The former champions, who hold the record for having won the most number of league titles, are just two points clear of the relegation zone at the 12th place on the points table, while Liverpool are yet to lose or draw a game in the ongoing 2019-20 Premier League season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping for some respite in the treatment room for Manchester United's upcoming Premier League clash with Liverpool, with Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka pushing for a return to the first-team this weekend. Things have gotten a lot worse for the Norwegian gaffer as he has given a Man United injury update that is sure to have fans panicking.

Pogba has featured in only two of United's last seven fixtures in all competitions due to an ankle issue and was left out of France's squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Iceland and Turkey.

The Frenchman was in Dubai over the global break for warm-weather training, but has not yet made enough progress to face Liverpool.

The shot-stopper appeared to injure his groin while clearing the ball and was swapped for Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Paul Pogba's dance partner, Jesse Lingard, is also sidelined.

Solskjaer said: "David needs a scan". It certainly looked like it anyway judging on last night", adding: "Paul had a scan after the Arsenal game.

"De Gea was treated at the break and chose to continue".

Sky Sports claim the pair will miss Sunday's game through injury.
