"He played my position in the league (NBA), he's coached in the league, he coached LeBron (James) and I want to be around that, I want to be around a winning spirit".

"I feel like if I did have other five-star players playing with me I would be fine", Todd said. "And excel my game to the next level".

The Wolverines came in late in the recruitment of Todd, picking up the pace this summer around the Nike EYBL Peach Jam. "Big things are coming at MI".

"He didn't know if I was interested in the school early, but he went out on a limb and offered me", Todd said. "From there, we were talking and just instantly clicked". Aside from his kinship with Howard, how did he go about his process and land on MI? Other schools kept getting commits at his position, and Todd saw that the light best shined down on Ann Arbor. "And I just sat back and waited to see what moves would happen. I wanted to go to a school where we win and I can get to the National Basketball Association and be the best player I can be". I took that as a sign. "That's when it became clear, between here and here".

From a basketball standpoint, Todd brings the flawless mix of versatility and tenacity that will make him an instant impact player.

When Michigan tabbed former Fab Five star Juwan Howard as its coach to succeed John Beilein, the expectation was that he'd bring in top-end talent.

Does Todd intend to do the same?

"Michigan has been wonderful to me ever since they started recruiting me", Todd told The News & Observer after his announcement. "We've already started coming after a bunch of guys, but I'm gonna keep that under wraps for now". "I had a great time at Kansas too, it was a tough decision, I just feel like MI is the better fit".

In May, when Juwan Howard was named head coach at his alma mater MI, he was downright insistent about his primary goal in his statement to "lead us to championships both in the Big Ten and national level".
