Red Sox Dump Pitching Coach Dana LeVangie

The Boston Red Sox began an overhaul of their coaching staff Tuesday, announcing that pitching coach Dana LeVangie has been reassigned to the professional scouting department. Brian Bannister will now not be the assistant pitching coach however will stay vice chairman of pitching growth and give attention to the minor leagues, in response to the workforce.

The Sox also officially announced that assistant hitting coach Andy Barkett will not return next season.

- Manager of advanced scouting Steve Langone will join LeVangie as a Red Sox pro scout.

Boston's coaching staff reshuffling after it fired president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski in early September.

LeVangie, who has worked in many capacities in the organization over the last three decades, will continue with the team in a scouting role.

Bench coach Ron Roenicke, hitting coach Tim Hyers, first base coach Tom Goodwin, third base coach Carlos Febles, bullpen coach Craig Bjornson and major league coach Ramon Vazquez will all likely return.

This news shouldn't be overly surprising for Red Sox fans, as there were a number of pitchers that took a step back in 2019.
