The Angels also fired their manager, Brad Ausmus, a few days after the conclusion of the 2019 season. ESPN first reported the interview.

"Maddon spent 31 years in Angels' organization before joining the Rays as manager in 2006", he reports. He was let go by Chicago on the final day of the regular season.

Maddon, who began his coaching career with the Angels, is reportedly interested in returning to the California franchise.

The 65-year-old previously served as interim manager of the Angels in 1996 and 1999.

"Joe Maddon will interview with the Angels early this week and they are his No. 1 choice, sources tell The Athletic". He was on Los Angeles' bench when owner Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003, and the two have a cordial relationship.

Los Angeles is looking to find the right mix after missing the playoffs each of the past five seasons.

Maddon is the first known candidate at the moment, though Angels general manager Billy Eppler said earlier this week that the team will undergo a traditional search.
