Large climate change protests in London and other cities

9News can confirm the man has sent a video to Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, demanding a climate emergency be declared. He also has enough food and supplies to stay up there for multiple days. Extinction Rebellion said several protesters were arrested in the Victorian capital.

Groups of artists held a procession around Marble Arch as the protesters were told to "surround" the upcoming demonstrations with love.

Before he was arrested on Tuesday, Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Jesse Noakes said the beginning of Friday's protest would coincide with morning peak hour and he expected commuters to be delayed.

Yesterday, 10 protesters were arrested after targeting Melbourne CBD's afternoon peak traffic. "But this is a public health emergency, and they aren't acting as fast as they should".

Today they are camped out at Carlton Gardens.

More than 100 protesters dressed as bees at Sydney's Hyde Park to highlight their claim that insects are under threat due to the impact of humans on the environment.

Extinction Rebellion is calling on the Government to declare a climate and ecological emergency, to act immediately to halt wildlife loss and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

"Godfrey said: "'Extinction Rebellion seems to be the last and only hope of stimulating the changes that are needed to save our civilisation and the natural environment that supports it".

"We are world-leading on what we are doing around agriculture - we have done more than (past) government's ever - but we accept there's more to do".

Those protesting join activists across the world, including thousands in major European cities.

Extinction Rebellion protesters from the South West have occupied streets around the Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs offices and blockaded the entrance in Horseferry Road.

In London, police arrested at least 20 people Monday as protesters have vowed to close down Parliament and Trafalgar Square.

Extinction Rebellion, a nonpolitical movement, launched previous year in the United Kingdom and rose to prominence in April, when it disrupted traffic in Central London for 11 days.
