Temple rushes past East Carolina

Following the win, the Owls went 5-2 the rest of the season and finished 8-4 in the regular season with a bid to the Independence Bowl. We're a physical team, and that's the way we're building this thing.

ECU has never beaten Temple in AAC play, losing five consecutive games, including the last three seasons by a combined score of 120-26. The games during the Scottie Montgomery era were never competitive. If the Owls continue to defend as it has thus far, this team could be far better than expectations were billing it to be, and the 11.5-point spread in its favor attests to the level of respect Temple is now getting from NCAA football oddsmakers and bookmakers across the board.

The Owls experienced success under former coaches Matt Rhule and Geoff Collins in prior years, and are now led by first-year head coach Rod Carey, previously of Northern Illinois.

The Terps (2-1), who had opened with two straight blowout wins, made a series of plays in the third quarter to shake out of a road malaise. "A lot of skill and athleticism at the stand-up positions".

"We're not in it for moral victories". The Pirates, meanwhile, were not able to recover. "Any team that I coach, we're going to be a team that has to have the ability to punch it in".

"I remember them previous year". But that physicality is something we have to embrace and it's something Coach Houston has instilled in us as well.

Temple went 7-1 in league play last season, with its only loss coming at UCF in a high-scoring affair.

Pirates are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games. ECU is already 0-1 in league play with its 42-10 loss at the hands of Navy. In total, the Owls recorded three sacks in the game. Blake Proehl has registered 20 catches - nobody else on the team has more than 11 - and has two of the team's four receiving touchdowns, with tight end Anthony Watley accounting for the other two. The defense is the strength of the team, bolstered by a strong front seven that's paced by senior linebacker Shaun Bradley.

"There's not a weakness there", Houston said. "You look at offensively, defensively and special teams-wise, they fit together. It's what you want to look like". The quarterback was a quiet sensation for a awful ECU team in 2018, tallying 18 total touchdowns and just three interceptions.

ECU fans are encouraged to wear black for the 8 p.m. kickoff.

"From my feeling on the sideline, we've got to learn to bow our back and compete when the momentum is against us", head coach Mike Houston said of the third quarter. "It just brings something different".

The Owls faced an RPO offense in Maryland earlier in the season.

"Everything you're supposed to do to lose a game, we did", Carey said, "yet, we still executed well enough to overcome that".

Player numbers will appear just above that logo with yellow piping. "I don't talk too much on Twitter about it".

But Ahlers - a scrambling man most of the night - couldn't get the Pirates past the 50, and Temple eventually closed the quarter with a short-field touchdown drive.

Temple have won all of the games they've played against East Carolina in the last five years. "Primetime on ESPN on Thursday night".

The game program cover boy, Bradley stopped McFarland on fourth-and-goal with 3:27 left to seemingly seal the win.

East Carolina came out on top in a nail-biter against Old Dominion last week, sneaking past 24-21. Temple made easy work of Georgia Tech and carried off a 24-2 win. These are big practices for us.

It will come down to if East Carolina can get the ball in the end zone. It is what it is. Everybody in the country has got that. "You've got to keep your eyes when you're facing offenses like this".

"I think after the game, we were a little too juiced up running off the field and stuff". I like the fact that you can coach him hard and he'll respond to it, because he wants to win.
