Bianca Andreescu said that for the first time in her career she watched a video of one of her matches with her coach - and the teenage tennis star recoiled at what she saw.

The world No. 6 beat Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-3, 7-5 today in a second-round match at the China Open.

Although Andreescu has mostly held on to her Canadian roots by staying humble through all her achievements, she is finally beginning to realize how good she really is.

"I think you see different things".

"When I do visualize and meditate, I always make sure to feel the feeling of myself winning. I think that's why I feel good coming into this tournament". The win is Andreescu's 16th consecutive victory.

Meanwhile, Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner Yifan Xu of China secured a spot in the doubles portion of the WTA Finals on Monday. Her 14th win in a row came hours after the WTA said she had locked down one of eight berths in the season-ending Finals, Oct. 27 to November 3 in Shenzhen, China.

Canadian fifth seed Andreescu, who needed three sets to dispatch her Belgian opponent in the US Open quarter-finals last month, fought back from 4-1 down in the second set and also saved a set point to win in an hour and 55 minutes. "But I think I've learnt a lot from the past couple of weeks, during the tournament, even after the tournament with all the media, all that", she said.

There are stories everywhere.

Bianca will be facing off in her 16th round against Jennifer Brady on Thursday, and all of Canada is showing their support as #WeTheNorth trends on Twitter.
