According to a report by Neowin, "Discord launched its own games store and overhauled the Nitro subscription service to offer access to a library of games in addition to other chat and server related perks. the library of games Nitro subscribers get access to is getting axed, and its because nearly nobody actually played them". In hindsight, it seems as though the move was a rare misstep for a company that can seemingly do no wrong as of late.

Discord has chose to stop supplying Discord Nitro subscribers with a catalog of free games, the company announced in a blog post. "So, after careful consideration, we won't be hitting Continue when these contracts come up for renewal", the blog reads.

In October 2018, Discord Nitro was renamed to "Discord Nitro Classic", and a new subscription tier of $9.99 a month was created and took on the Discord Nitro name instead. Those who have purchased games on Discord or Nitro Game Perks will still be able to play or use them.

Discord is offering a refund to subscribers that wish to cancel their membership over the matter.

There is an upside to removing the catalog in that it frees up additional resources for Discord to refocus.

More additions to the $10 package are promised for the future: Discord said it's "going to double down on making sure Nitro nails its mission", with "more features, fun, and enhancements for hanging out in Discord with the people you care about".
