Taylor Swift signs up for 'race that stops a nation'

Swift tours Australia for Frontier Touring, Frontier boss Michael Gudinski is the owner of Melbourne Cup 2016 and 2017 winners Almandin and Rekindling.

It will be Taylor's only Australian gig and appearance off the back of the release of her latest album, Lover.

Swift, 29, will perform two songs from her critically-acclaimed new album, Lover, ahead of the famous $8 million race.

But the Coalition For The Protection of Racehorses has been quick off the mark with a campaign to ask Swift to say #NupToTheCup on social media.

Whereas the "haters gonna hate" VRC chief govt Neil Wilson stated he was thrilled to welcome the "world's most celebrated star" to the occasion.

Anticipating its biggest global audience to date, the 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins with AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 2 November, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 5 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 7 November and Seppelt Wines Stakes Day on Saturday 9 November.
