The charges against Najila Trindade, 26, come after a Sao Paulo judge dismissed her rape case against one of the world's highest-paid footballers in August, citing insufficient evidence.

But now, a new twist. officials believe Trindade concocted an illegal, diabolical plot to falsely accuse Neymar of rape in an effort to extort the soccer superstar.

Model Najila Trindade and a former partner of hers have both received indictments which allege that the pair conducted procedural fraud, slanderous denunciation and extortion as part of what appears to be a scheme created to defraud Neymar from money, according to reports.

"Based on the evidence gathered during the investigations, the delegate decided for the indictment of N. and Estivens Alves, her former partner, for procedural fraud (art. 347)", a statement from Sao Paulo police reads.

Once the accusation became public, Neymar stated in an Instagram Live video that their brief relationship was entirely consensual.

Trindade denied that in her TV interview, saying, "I wouldn't expose myself this way to take money from Neymar".

Also in June, a video emerged on social media that appeared to show Neymar and Trindade physically fighting in a hotel room.

In an attempt to defend himself against the allegations, Neymar's video was accompanied by WhatsApp messages and images of his encounter with Trindade - without her consent, possibly breaking Brazilian law.

The drama quickly snowballed.

That was followed by prosecutors in Brazil also finding a lack of evidence and announcing their decision earlier this month to close the case against Neymar.

He added: 'This scar will remain to remind me at what point people are capable of doing good things, but also of doing BAD things'.
