Tesla Driver Recorded Asleep at the Wheel

A MA man has posted a video online that appears to show the driver of a Tesla sleeping as the auto speeds along a highway.

Dakota Randall of Massachussets published the video on his Twitter account on Sunday, which shows the Tesla Model X cruising in an adjacent lane on the Interstate 90 highway.

Tesla cars, made by Elon Musk's flagship brand, boast the self-drive technology as part of their arsenal of features.

While the company has not yet responded to Sunday's reported incident, it has repeatedly warned users not to doze off whilst in control of their vehicle.

"Tesla owners have driven billions of miles using Autopilot, and data from our quarterly Vehicle Safety Report indicates that drivers using Autopilot experience fewer accidents than those operating without assistance".

It adds self-driving technology does not absolve drivers of responsibility.

A Tesla spokesperson says the driver-monitoring system repeatedly reminds drivers to remain engaged and prohibits the use of autopilot when warnings are ignored. Randall himself tells NBC Boston that he personally tried to wake the driver up by honking, but had no success. "I'm always going to look to see if somebody's asleep". The driver looks to be fast asleep with his head between his legs, while his passenger also looks to be sleeping heavily. He didn't contact the police about the incident, even though he had the video to backup his story.
