Unfortunately, you won't be able to update your existing Modern Warfare 2v2 Gunfight alpha download into the beta client. But this latest look at Modern Warfare will be far more expansive, offering access to multiple mads and gameplay modes. The beta's second weekend (September 19-23) includes cross-play, which should prove interesting. The PlayStation 4 Beta weekend begins Thursday, September 12 at 10 a.m. PDT and ends at an unannounced time on the morning of Monday, September 16.

If you haven't pre-ordered yet, our friends at Activision have kindly provided us with 50x UK Modern Warfare Beta Early Access codes that we're thrilled to be able to give away to you, the loyal UK & Ireland Push Square readers.

You will be able to preload the Beta prior to Thursday, September 12, (PS4 only).

In an official blog post, Activision said the game will have two different beta tests in September, each lasting for a period of five days. September 12-13 are limited to "early access" players who pre-ordered Modern Warfare on PS4, while September 14-16 are open to all PS4 players, no pre-order necessary.

Much of Modern Warfare's new mechanics and features will be there as well, including the Gunsmith weapon customisation tool, a few killstreaks, field upgrades and perks.

Downloading the Beta: Once you've received your Beta Code, go to PlayStation Store. It will detect digital pre-orders, but for those who physically pre-ordered the game, an email will be sent to you with a code to redeem on the Store. Look for instructions regarding preloading availability, then visit PlayStation Store, search for Modern Warfare, and follow the prompts to install the Beta.

It's also worth noting that the final version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support cross-play between PC, Xbox One and PS4. For players who pre-loaded the Gunfight alpha, they might remember Activision allowing the servers to go live a day early.

Each beta weekend is split into two portion: one exclusive to players who pre-ordered the full game, and another open to all for the rest of that weekend. Watch Call of Duty's and Infinity Ward's social media channels for precise times.

Prestiging first appeared in the original Modern Warfare game back in 2007, and since then has played an integral part in the franchise's multiplayer mode, giving players the chance to trade in their current levels to earn a new rank logo and additional items or systems to show as a reward for their efforts. We're hoping the even bigger 64 and 100-player modes will be present, too.
