Is the Chicago Bears' kicking competition finally over?

The Bears will open the 2019 season against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, kicking off the National Football League regular season in the process.

Despite the lengthy offseason position battle, Nagy exuded confidence in the kicker.

"He deserves it", coach Matt Nagy said Sunday. "He earned every right to be our kicker".

Chicago is coming off a 12-4 regular season but the Bears lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card game after Parkey missed a game-winning field goal in the final seconds.

In June, the Bears waived former Pitt kicker Chris Blewitt, one of three kickers who took part at mandatory minicamp.

Pineiro, 23, kicked collegiately at Florida and signed in May 2018 with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. King, the 33rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has missed 17 games, more than the 15 he played in his first two seasons.

Acquired from the Raiders in May, Pineiro was 8 of 9 on field-goal attempts this preseason, converting a 58-yarder against the Colts on August 24.
