Toyota Eyes Return of the MR2

Toyota has long wanted to resurrect its MR2 mid-engine roadster series - and would like Porsche to join in on the project, Engineering Chief Tetsua Tada said in an interview. But given that Toyota's joint development with competitors in recent years have become common practice, and Porsche has a huge experience in creating srednemirovyh sports cars, such an Alliance seems quite real. Toyota is now talking about its desire to bring the cars back. Rumors have said the MR2 might be an EV, but it sounds like things might be taking a different turn. When asked about the automaker he'd like to work with for a potential fourth generation of the sports auto, his answer was "Porsche".

A Toyota and Porsche tie-up would make a bit of sense. For instance, it enlisted the help of Subaru to design the GT86, and worked together with BMW to launch the new Supra. The rumor mill keeps churning stories such as the one about a possibly electric MR2 or a revival of the mid-engined small performance vehicle with Subaru's help. A tie-up with Porsche would also mean the auto is likely to be expensive, assuming it ever happens.
