Backup quarterback Jake Haener is leaving No. 13 Washington after losing a camp battle for the starting job to Georgia transfer Jacob Eason. Petersen said Haener was expected to play in that game as well. This season will test whether the Huskies can simply continue to reloadThey could have Georgia transfer Jacob Eason _ once the top recruit in the country coming out of high school _ under center at quarterback.

He played in all 13 games for the Bulldogs in 2016, starting 12 of them.

Haener played in four games past year and completed nine passes for 107 yards with one touchdown and an interception as Jake Browning's backup.

Eason could prove to be a talent upgrade over Jake Browning, who dominated in 2016 but regressed significantly the past two seasons before graduating. But Eason sustained a leg injury early in the season opener, and when he was ready to return, coach Kirby Smart elected to stick with Fromm. He sat out the 2018 season.

At Washington, Eason beat out sophomore Jake Haener for the starting spot.

According to The Washington Times, Eason officially won the team's competition for the starting quarterback gig and will take the field for the opener against Eastern Washington on August 31.
