3D Renders Show Off the PlayStation 5’s V-Shaped Design

A Sony patent found recently shows what can only be a gaming rig, and we soon learned the drawing wasn't just a concept.

However, some opined that the patent actually pertained to a PS5 devkit, which was seemingly confirmed by Matthew Stott of Codemasters. According to a deleted tweet from a video game developer, it's the PlayStation 5 dev kit's actual design.

The 3D renders do an incredible job of bringing the console to life and make me personally hope that the final product remains more or less in line with what's shown above. Although the render creators have tried their best to make the device look futuristic and aesthetically pleasing, there's no getting past the overall chunky and ungainly look of the thing. Dev kits don't represent final product design.

The console was spotted three days ago when reported on a new patent registered by Sony at the INPI (Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial) in Brazil in May this year, and they had also registered the same design patent in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) database earlier this month. If Sony does implement the clearly visible V-shaped design motif then it could be possible that the naming convention will move from Western Arabic numerals to Roman numerals.
