News On The King Of The Ring Tournament

WWE announced earlier this week that the King of the Ring tournament would be returning, and today they've revealed the bracket for the tournament including the first round matches. Then there's the examples of Owen Hart, Steve Austin, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Edge as just some names who were soon thrust towards the main event scene after winning the King of the Ring.

It wasn't noted who the entire tournament was brought back for, but WWE apparently brought back the King Of The King Tournament for one particular Superstar.

Overall, the odds lean more in favour of the Raw superstars, so there's a stronger chance that the victor of the 2019 King of the Ring will be a Raw superstar. After ending the annual tournament in 2002, WWE has held it just four times over the last 16 years. It was largely unspectacular, as were the prior versions in 2010 and 2008, which each only aired over a single night of Raw.

Uncle Dave reports that the reason for WWE brass deciding to bring back the King of the Ring is with the ultimate aim of putting over a wrestler.

The tournament is set to kick off next Monday on Raw, and it will continue to be part of Raw and SmackDown Live over the next few weeks. The date in which we will crown a 2019 King of the Ring victor has yet to be announced as well, though the timing has it lining up with the Clash of Champions PPV event on September 14. Another school of thought, of course, is that Ricochet could win the tournament and reclaim the King Ricochet moniker that he used on the independent scene for so many years.

As you can see from the image above, on the Raw side of the bracket in the first round, Cesaro will face Joe, Ricochet will take on McIntyre, Alexander faces Zayn, and The Miz takes on Corbin.
