To shed some insight into that, former Microsoft executive Terry Myerson wrote an extensive LinkedIn post that starts at the very beginning and carries through the latest chapters in his Seattle fandom.

The Seattle Sounders are adding Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and wife Ciara, hip-hop artist Macklemore and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to the MLS club's ownership group.

Myerson led the charge to bring the new ownership group together. The new ownership group is focused on keeping the team in Seattle.

Myerson gathered an impressive list of owners for the team which each gave statements on the purchase in the team's announcement post. "Time and time again, he would ask, 'What is best for the Sounders?' Selflessly, this question would always guide his thinking as we navigated through a variety of options for the club and new investors".

A number of Microsoft chiefs past and present have also joined the Sounders' ownership group, which is headed by majority owner Adrian Hanauer. "Collectively, we believe that Seattle is the greatest city in the world and that Sounders FC has a responsibility to both preserve our region's unique spirit while also leading our community by fostering an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all".

"Sounders FC was born right here in Seattle, and for more than 40 years, the club has forged a meaningful legacy that is deep and far-reaching".
