Cristiano Ronaldo: How manager Zinedine Zidane helped me at Real

Real Madrid are ready to move on from Paul Pogba and will give up on signing the Manchester United midfielder if they can strike a deal for Neymar.

However, despite the English transfer window shutting last Thursday, rumours still continue to circulate over the Frenchman.

United were reluctant to lose Pogba this summer but it is thought the club would have considered their record £89m signing's position had their minimum £160m valuation been met.

However, Merson says United must stand firm and keep hold of Pogba for this season at least.

As such, Real appear to have turned their attention to Neymar, and The Sun claim that they will only return for Pogba if they fail to lure Neymar to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, largely due to the financial cost of pursuing both players.

"No one [can replace Pogba at United]", Merson said on The Debate.

No club got even vaguely close to that price tag, though, and there is no expectation of that changing over the coming weeks but, even if it did, United are unprepared to let Pogba go. He was always honest with me and that's why I will always carry him in my heart'. The transfer window's shut.

"They can't sell him, they can't sell him".
