Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Announced For Nintendo Switch

As ever, Nintendo will launch a new generation of Pokemon games with the release of two games.

That in turn has prompted a whole wave of brand new memes, imagining what a Pokemon game might look like if it was populated exclusively by grumpy cockneys and written by someone who's spent the last six months directly mainlining Scottish Twitter.

The success of the new titles, which will feature new Pokemon including the chimp-like Grookey and the rabbit-like Scorbunny, will be key for driving sales growth of the hybrid home-portable console. I haven't kept up with the previous generations but I look forward to getting this game. As is traditional in Pokemon games, the grass-type is the first of the starter Pokemon. But other than knowing the title, the starters and the map, no other piece of info has been released. There's also no word yet on which Pokemon will be exclusive to Shield and to Sword. There is no word yet on which Legendary Pokemon will appear for which version. Various areas from the Galar region were showcased, such as the rural villages, an industrial city and a mountain caught in the midst of a snowstorm.

Shigeru Ohmori, Director of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield gave us a little journey through the Galar Region in the Pokemon Direct and that is where all of our information is being pulled from.

While Nintendo stopped short of confirming an exact Pokemon Sword and Shield release date, we do know that the two games are coming to Nintendo Switch in late 2019.

That's all we know at the moment, but not all there is.
