Luckily for Arsenal fans, the club is actively searching for recruits in both positions, and are on the verge of signing Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney on deadline day.

However, the club's pursuit of Upamecano looks to have ended after Leipzig told the Gunners that they will not sell for less than the 20-year-old's release clause, which stands at £92m.

The club are interested in RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano - but it is thought a combination of valuation and the player wanting to stay for Champions League football could make a deal hard.

However, after lengthy negotiations with Bordeaux, an agreement is believed to have been reached on Monday night, and Arsenal took to their official website to confirm Koscielny's departure from the club.

Arsenal are ready to offload captain Laurent Koscielny, with a deal in place for the French defender to return to his homeland with Bordeaux, according to Sky Sports.

Wright posted on his Twitter account: "This hurts".

Koscielny had a year left on his deal at the time but felt he deserved to be allowed to leave on a free as a reward for his nine years of service.

Koscielny wrote on Instagram: "After nine years spent at Arsenal, I took the decision to leave. Hope it's worth it in the long run".

Koscielny is still to discuss personal terms with the club but they are unlikely to be a problem given his desire to leave the Emirates.

"So he has made decisions in regards to the personalities he wants and he's gone after and pursed this talent, so that's a gamble because we know there is a weakness and only time will tell if he's got that right".

"However I hope you understand, and in any case I can not be thankful enough for these years past at Arsenal".

"I am aware of everything that the club and you supporters have brought to me".
