Speculation over Paul Pogba's Manchester United future intensifies after friendly absence

Over the past few weeks, various reports had suggested that Paul Pogba is on his way to Real Madrid or Juventus this summer after spending three seasons with Manchester United.

Last month, Pogba reportedly told team-mates he was going to boycott United's pre-season tour before he eventually reported for duty.

There have also been unconfirmed suggestions an administrative error led to him being wrongly named in the squad for the Milan game in Cardiff. It's not an injury, it's just some pain.

The 26-year-old England defender will cost £80million - and Solskjaer expects him to be in contention to make his debut against Chelsea in next weekend's Premier League opener.

Pogba was left behind at Carrington along with wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku, who has been reprimanded for posting training data on Twitter. Luke Shaw and Juan Mata were bottom.

The problem, as ever, will be the two clubs coming to an agreement on the transfer fee, with United's reported valuation standing close to £150 million.

But Solskjaer said Pogba's name being included in the party was down to an administrative error, and he was aware that the World Cup victor would not be travelling to Cardiff.

Harry Maguire was undergoing a medical at United's Carrington training ground on Saturday morning before finalising an £85m move from Leicester City, while Solskjær is keen to add further to his squad before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The manager spoke after Manchester United's final pre-season friendly against AC Milan on 3rd August.
