Social media platform returns after hour-long outage today — Twitter down

Twitter seems to be finding its voice again.

Update 15:59 EDT: Twitter is back up. Most queries on the social media platform were resulting in an error page for users all over the world.

According to Downdetector, the problems began at approximately 2:46 pm ET, when the site recorded a major spike in user outages. At the time of this article, people worldwide are having trouble accessing their Twitter accounts.

The idea is being tested in Canada first, before it is adopted by other countries.

Once Twitter service was restored, the downtime was an immediate subject of tweets.

Twitter is now experiencing an outage, forcing everyone to hold in their 280-character thoughts.

"We are now investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter", the company said on its official page.

"Something is technically wrong", read the error message greeting users trying to access the site, starting before noon PT. Some users in various parts of the United States were still experiencing outages as of 5.12pm ET, according to the website. The platform experienced temporary outages relating to DM delivery and notifications on July 3, the same day Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp users saw those services down for most of the day.

According to Newsweek, Twitter let out a statement acknowledging the outage.

"We were down. and now slowly coming back up".
